“In a small spot where I’d go every morning for juice, there was a beautiful woman who served me. But because she spoke another language, we communicated mostly through glances and looks. Every time she handed me the glass of juice, I knew there was something to be said. To explain it, I composed a song, titled “Janine.”
The day I went to show, and play it, for her, I found that she’d left the country.”
Charlie Porter
Multi-genre trumpeteer and composer Charlie Porter has played the world’s venues with verve and imagination that sets him apart from other jazz musicians.
This time, it was the Bronx’s turn to be serenaded.
His quartet performed classic standards along with Porter´s hard-hitting original tunes in a no-nonsense, straight to the point style, ensconced in the Bronx Library Center on East Kingsbridge Road this past Sat., Jan. 21st.
